Camp Lessons...One Student Athlete's Journey

Meet Allie, an incoming junior, high school and club soccer player and client of The College Program.  This summer Allie had the privilege to attend two soccer camps back-to-back in Colorado.  We interviewed Allie about her experience, how she prepared herself for these camps, what she learned during the camps and what she is going to do with this knowledge moving forward.

It's All About The Numbers

Play the Percentages

The College Recruiting process is a game of percentages. There are 390,000 plus male high school soccer players. There are 350,000 plus female high school soccer players. Approximately 6% of all high school soccer players play college soccer and even a smaller number receive a full scholarship. The average male soccer scholarship across all three divisions is 39%. The average female soccer scholarship is 43% across all three divisions.

Play the percentages in looking for a college athletic scholarship, says Tim Twellman.

Live in this Moment and Live

As a 16,17 year old I never really paid much attention to the future. The future was always the next weekend, the next party, this weeks test and this week’s game.  It was hard just to manage this small window of time. Looking back at this way of thinking it really is not a bad way of thinking. All of us need to live more in the moment to really experience what is right in front of us. We have great friends, we have great parents, we are provided with great teachers. We are meeting new opportunities each and every day just by being present. Being present in every moment is actually being truly alive.

"Live from the End" Use your imagination & envision what your future could be on graduation day. We believe that if you can See your future responsibility, you will understand the magnitude of this decision and make a more educated choice.

The Cost of College & Your Post-Graduate 1:1 Ratio

Today, there is an increasing number of college graduates with student debt. While the sources and numbers may vary, recent estimates suggest that the average student debt for a college graduate is rising from around $25k to $35k. While many factors play a part in this national average, the fact remains that the college graduates are graduating with more and more student debt every day. And, many of these recent grads don’t even have jobs…

Do you understand your post-graduate 1:1 ratio?

The Cost of College: Calculate Your Family's Real Contribution, Not How Much You Can Borrow!

For the past decade, economists have debated why the cost of college continues to rise in this country. Some blame it on the regulators, the banks, the student loan providers or even the colleges themselves…  But, WHO ultimately pays for college? WHO makes the final decision? There is an underlying issue that continues to be overlooked in this country …

When you are deciding on a college for your child, you need to calculate the true cost, not how much you can borrow.

College Cost = It’s Time for YOU to Set a New Standard!

College has become a burden - specifically, a financial burden for families and college graduates all across the United States. At one point in history, receiving a college education was an honor of the highest quality. A college education not only guaranteed you a job but it didn't cost anywhere near what it costs today. In fact, most college students could work their way through college and not have a single cent of debt after graduation.

High school student-athletes and their families need to set a new standard in their college search, says a longtime college soccer coach.

Giving Back as a Family

The sport of soccer has given our family so much over the years. When I actually look back at the 35 years I have been married soccer has always been part of our daily lives.

From my college education, to my career as a professional player, to my current career directing Twellman Soccer, this sport has always been part of my life.

The same is true for my three kids. From their education to their careers to their love of the game soccer has always
and continues to be part of their lives.

The love of the sport has and will always be present but now our focus has changed.

Are we listening to the injured athlete?

Making Memories…High School Sports

How many opportunities do you get to play sports in high school?  Parents, looking back during your day, how much fun did sports bring to your high school experience?   Sports can bring a tremendous amount of fun and school spirit and this can happen both as a player and or as a spectator.

Parents ...Your Support is Needed NOW

I know I speak for your kids when I say "THANK YOU" for everything that you do for them.

These young athletes could never do what they do without the help of their parents and/or guardians.

"THANK YOU" and I know they appreciate it even if they don't say so.

It is that time of year and your son or daughter will be back in school and competing athletically in their sport of choice.

I know I speak for your kids when I say "THANK YOU" for everything that you do for them. No way they could get through all of this without your support, especially as they move on to High School sports.
