...Shin splints

I am a parent of a former field hockey and women's lacrosse player. My daughter developed severe shin splints after a couple of intense years on artificial turf. By the time my daughter's injuries were diagnosed as severe and borderline fractures, a lot of damage had already been done. When we asked how long my daughter had felt this pain, she admitted that she had complained about shin pain for a long time and had been instructe to wrap her shins in ice after playing.

...ACL

I tore my ACL 5 years ago, but it still hasn't been the same since then.....I played four yrs in college and i play basketball overseas now....I rehabbed a lot in college but my quad never same to build back up like the one on my other leg...My knee bothers me sometime with pain but then eventually goes away once i warm up a little. But why does it not have full range of motion yet and as strong as it should be??

...Torn ACL

My 12 year old son has a partially torn ACL from being injured at a Middle School Football game. We have seen 2 orthopedic surgeons. One is well known around the area and treats most professional athletes in our area. The other is a pediatic ortho surgeon. Each has given us a different course of action to take. The pediatic ortho wants to repair the ACL with surgery and the other wants to rehab it and use a speciallized brace until he has finished growing. He still has open growth plates which makes him nervous to perform surgery.

...Girls Knees

It seems to be a fact that girls are tearing up their knees more oftent than boys. Has your daughter suffered a serious sports injury? A recent New York Times article reported that girls are suffering more injuries than boys playing sports. What has been your experience? Are girls are injured more often than boys?
