Girls Knees

It seems to be a fact that girls are tearing up their knees more oftent than boys. Has your daughter suffered a serious sports injury? A recent New York Times article reported that girls are suffering more injuries than boys playing sports. What has been your experience? Are girls are injured more often than boys?

My daughter fractured her knee

my allstar softball player actually fractured her knee at Middle School Field day playing a pick up game of ball. She said she heard it pop when she stepped on base. She has caught for at least half a game each season and we are wondering if perhaps she damaged the knee prior to this and didn't know it. At least it wasn't an acl.

Fractured Knee

I have seen this two times in the past 16 years! I am sure that both the girls whom I helped (I aM a school RN) did not warm up enough. Just curious,,can you tell me what the weather was an dif your girl warmed up? Also, what kind of excercises do they do pre-practice/game?

There is statistical

There is statistical evidence that girls are more prone to knee injuries than boys. And it's simply how each gender is built. Girls legs/ knees tend to have more stress than boys. This was very common 10-15 years ago. It seems like that is subsiding a little. Sports with quick cutting seem to bring it about more, like basketball and soccer.
I think the advent of girls doing more strength and plyometric excercises have begun to change that some. Strenghting the quad/ hamstrings and calves have seemed to help, although the structure the female knee is still more prone to injury.
There are many articles and remedies on the internet regarding this subject.
