Great article --no how about one about when your child picks a sport that you disaprove of? My girl is looking to wrestle this year --at the same time she is entering a high school. Just don't think this is what she needs to be doing.

David, actually girls wrestling is a sport that is growing over the last 10 years. It takes a special and unique kid to want to do that sport. Especially starting to learn in high school.
Just a few comments, first of all, parents can have some effect on the sportst their kids play, but your child is going to migrate to the sports that's popular in your community, or the ones their buddies do. Especially with girls, who tend to do sports more for social reasons.
Look at what sports are at your local high school. If your school does not have hockey or soccer, why start a process where the kid plays 6 years of travel soccer, then there's no program at the school level. The kid then has to learn a new sport at 15 when their classmates have been playing that sport for 2-3 years.
