Concussion Safe Sport?

Thank you momstream for all the great information on concussions. My son (9) suffered a mild head injury/concussion with whiplash 2 weeks ago in a hockey game. He is recovering, but we have learned so much about mild head injuries that we did not know. Looking back, with what we've now learned, he has easily had 4 concussions - none of which received the proper medical attention, and at no time were we ever told about the cumulative effect of mild head injuries. Clearly our son is prone to head injuries, but he is very athletic, and we are very seriously considering taking him out of hockey altogether. Are there certain sports where concussions are more or less likely?

Statistics

Christina, You brought up some good points. That your son got a concussions from whiplash is still something many parents are confused about and that you had little or no information going into sports. I am glad that you have found the MomsTeam head injury center and hope you will share it with all of your sons friends and parents. We have over 200 pages of information that will help prevent serious results. The safest sports are non contact sports--especially non violent contact sports, such as tennis, swimming, golf.
