First Aid training

Should First Aid training be mandatory for all coaches or is this really asking too much of them?

First aid training

I believe that some sort of basic course in first aid should be mandatory for all coaches in youth sports, and programs should make sure that the coach has a complete first aid kit available at all games and practices.

Coaches Training

I am a Cal Ripkin Baseball coach and the organization has now made it mandatory for all coaches to have training in the sport. I think this is great but I also think many of the coaches need to know more about how kids develop and how they "tick"--what makes some kids aware and alert and others not able to do certain things. I wonder if there are such classes? Does anyone have experience with this?

Never like the word mandate

Never like the word mandate in leagues. It just means "money". Yes, everyone should have a basic knowledge of first aid, but really who doesn't already? If a kid gets hit and knocked out, you take him to the emergency room or call and ambulance. If they get a bump, you put ice on it. If they get a cut, you clean it up and put a band aid on it.

Again, you just continue to put layers and layers of red tape and mandates to coaches and umpires and you shrink your pool of people willing to volunteer.
