How Early Can My Child Begin In-Line Skating?

In-line skating requires good balance and speed control; as a result, it is not a skill easily or quickly acquired, especially by young children. In-line skating also requires judgment and the ability to avoid obstacles, such as bicyclists, pedestrians, and other skaters.

What Is "Aggressive" Skating?

As a select group of in-liners began pushing the limits of the sport they joined their skateboarding friends in street skating and doing tricks on ramps. In 1988, the design of in-line skates caught up with this trend, providing these new "aggressive" in-line skaters with equipment that would allow them much more strength and control and that would lead to now classic tricks like grinding, which is when a skater jumps up on a railing and rides it down on their skates.

Pros & Cons Of In-Line Skating

The International In-Line Skating Association puts the number higher, at almost 30 million; half of them under the age of 14. Inline skating was the fastest-growing sport in the 90's. Half of all inline skaters were under the age of 18.

Glossary of Track and Field Terms

Pins/Spikes- Either term can be used to refer to the small metal implements that are screwed in to the holes in the bottom of the spikes (the shoes). Longer pins/spikes are used for softer track surfaces. Most tracks and track meets have a limit on the length of pins/spikes that are allowed since longer spikes can tear up the track surface.
