Every month for the past several years, MomsTEAM contributing writer, University of Missouri law professor, and youth hockey coach Doug Abrams [1], has highlighted an individual or team (usually, but not always, a youth athlete) as a Youth Sports Hero for doing something special, usually an act of exceptional sportsmanship.
In December each year, Doug lists his top five in an article for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
With 2012 now history, here are Doug's dozen heroes for the year:

March: Allan Guei (Compton, Calif.) [4]
April: Jack Jablonski (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Heriberto "Eddie" Avila (Belvidere, Ill.) [5]
