Dads can be Team Moms, too

Submitted by David Crandall on Sat, 06/06/2009 - 02:11.

I never played soccer. Growing up when and where I did, there was none even to watch, until I went to college. After college, the next soccer game I saw was when my 5-year-old daughter played in Southern California AYSO. I wanted to be a part of the support, but could not coach, could not referee, and did not want to work in the snack bar. Coach sez, "We need a Team Mom." I sez, "I'll do it!". Coach sez, "Great!" I ask, "What does a Team Mom do?". So they sent me to a meeting where I met all the others and we learned what to do and what not to do. It was a great gig and I did it with both of my daughters' teams, regular season and all-star for a decade. And I was pretty good. Even wrote the manual for team parents that our region (AYSO subdivision) uses.

Team Parents

Thank you for your comment. In fact we try hard not to use the term Team Mom. We use Team Parents. Even though our surveys show that 97% of parents taking on the role are mothers we hear from many fathers whom have stepped up to the (pizza) plate. For more information on what the roles and duties are check out the Team Parents channel >> http://www.momsteam.com/team-parents
