Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S., with participation increasing at an estimated rate of over 10% per year. According to a US Lacrosse 2005 participation survey:
- there are approximately 204,384 players at the youth level (age 15 and under, non-high school)
- approximately 147,042 high school athletes play lacrosse.
According to the NCAA:
The number of men's lacrosse teams at the college level increased 24% between 1993-1994 and 2003-2004 from 170 to 211
The number of women's lacrosse teams nearly doubled, from 133 to 258 between 1993-1994 and 2003-2004.
