More Emphasis On Injury Prevention in Youth Sports Needed, Says Micheli

The emphasis in youth sports safety should be on injury prevention, says Lyle Micheli, M.D., Director, Division of Sports Medicine at Children's Hospital Boston.  Many of the risk factors for injury can be controlled, says Michelli, through changes to the rules, equipment requirements, the size of fields, the number of throws (baseball)/hits (football), and certification of coaches in community-based sports. While some progress has been made, "we have a long way to go," he says.
