In need of meal (mostly dinner) ideas for football season

I have 3 sons who are playing football this season (1 middle school and 2 rec league), as well as a husband who coaches,  and am at a loss for easy dinners I can prepare. They practice from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. daily. I typically feed them a snack an hour before practice, and naturally they are *starving* by the time we get home! Any tried and true ideas would be so helpful!

we use alot of different

we use alot of different crockpot recipes, also I make casseroles...

then some nights it's different salads along with all kinds of types of sandwiches. we grill sandwiches.

I try to prepare foods ahead of time, it makes things easier.

I've had children involved in football/cheer for ten years now.

this year I have them from the beginner youth level up thru varsity in highschool.

Chinese food appeals to many

Chinese food appeals to many of us because it is tasty and relatively
inexpensive. We are also under the impression that Chinese cuisine is
healthy as it includes large portions of vegetables and low amounts of
fat. That’s true when the dishes are prepared the traditional Chinese
way in China. Wrap N Roll

Football nutrition advice is coming

We have some new articles on nutrition for football players in the pipeline. In the meantime, here's an article with some tips on choosing nutrient-dense foods for your football playing son.  I second the crock-pot, salads, and sandwhiches suggestion.

Here's an article that,

Here's an article that, while mostly about the importance of breakfast for football players, includes a recipe for burritos: a quick and easy choice for any meal, including dinner.

Yes having a good Breakfast

Yes having a good Breakfast is also key.  Also watch what you pack them for practice too.  make sure to pack an apple or banana.

My two boys that are on JV and Varsity football in highschool have their double sessions from 2 to 7:30pm.  they have about 30 min. for a lunch.

Here's something too, and

Here's something too, and I'm not sure if your area team does this or not. Our Varsity football (highschool) has team dinners the night before a game. This year instead of everyone bringing something, We have two moms that have volunteered to make and shop for all the dinners, and each player is giving them $20 for the regular season. It makes sure they eat healthy and it really helps bring out the teamwork.

We have been doing this for about 2 or 3 years now and it works great. and we also have a big breakfast with JV and Varsity. it's great for the teams. Especially when we have many in our community who you know doesn't eat well at home because their parents can barely afford to live let alone shop well.
