I need help....My 15 year old son was grabbed by an adult referee in the locker room after a game. He presented no signs of aggression, retaliation or unsportsman like condut. When he removed him arm from the referees grip he skated away. Ref now says my son pushed him (not true) and he is suspended for the season. Any ideas?
referee conflict
Sorry to say but it seems as if there is way too little information here.
Whenever there is a physical alteracation between 2 people, it is quite rare that it is completely one-sided. In this case, you have a ref who says a kid pushed him for no reason and a kid who says that a ref grabbed him for no reason.
I would venture to say that there is more to the story than meets the eye. In these scenarios, an individual without blame is like the perverbial needle in the haystack. In other words...GOOD LUCK FINDING EITHER IN THIS CASE!
Appreciate the comments -
Appreciate the comments - You're right there is always more than one side to every story..Both sons play on the same team...Oldest given a penalty last 2 minutes of the game and made his way to the locker room. End of game younger son makes way to locker room where he encounters the ref who grabs his arm refraining him to the locker room. My son removes his arm from his grasp and leaves the locker room. This kid was not acting aggressively, was not involved in any physical or verbal altercation, was not looking to put himself or anyone else in danger. Played fair all night - no penalties...Ref decides my son pushed him (not true) and hes suspended for the season - abuse of an official. Spoke to the league chairman to no avial. Spoke to AAU looking for a fair and impartial investigation - they say they have no jurisdiction..We are all for penalties and consequences for actions - that has we've raised the kids. You do something wrong and guess what - you'll pay.None of that "not my child" here. I thought time would give them the opportunity to reflect on the situation and see the over reaction. not the case. Ref was out of line - he should not be physically restraining someone if they are not acting in a manner that warrants it.. Just want a fair and unbiased look into the facts and dont know where to turn.
Agree with Tony, got to be
Agree with Tony, got to be more to the story. Does your league have any type of appeal procedure? I would think there would be some type of write up by the official. Not sure an official could suspend a kid for an entire season. Maybe one game, but that's it.
Who's locker room?
I don't know much about hockey, but is it common for the players and officials to share the same locker room?
Or in the case, the kids and adults?
