Title 9 and adding boys sport

Checking to see if anyone has gone through this or have some thought. We want to add a boys golf team to our high school. We now have a girls team. Our numbers look like this 63 percent boys play sports and 37 percent girls. Student population %52 boys %48 girls. We have taken a survey of girls looks like there is some interest in gymnastics. I think we could add boys golf and follow through with the girls interest. any thoughts thanks.

Looking at the percentage of girls that attend your high school vs. the percentage of boys, the number of girls who are playing sports is seriously out of whack, which makes me think that adding another boys' sport is not going to fly. Adding another girls' sport might help you with the numbers, but gymnastics is a very expensive sport, so that might not be the girls' sport you want to add, unless you get considerable financial support. A great resource to find out about Title IX, federal legislation that mandates equality in education, including sports, and what the criteria is for meeting these mandates is the Women' Sports Foundation, They can answer your questions. What does your school administration say?
