Strong Concussion Safety Laws in Place In All But Five States

With the signature of Governor Nathan Deal, Georgia became the 45th state to enact a so-called Zackery Lystedt concussion safety law since May 2009.  Of the remaining five states, Wyoming has enacted a weak concussion safety law, the high school athletic association in Arkansas has rules that mirror the concussion laws of other states, a bill is awaiting the signature of the governor in one (West Virginia), and legislation is pending in another (South Carolina), leaving only one (Mississippi) with no law or bill pending.

Pre-Season Heat Safety Guidelines for High School Sports: States Have Been Slow To Act

Four years after a joint task force of medical groups issued pre-season heat acclimatization guidelines, only ten state high school athletic associations have moved to adopt them.
