URGENT MEDICAL DEVICE
SAFETY INFORMATION AND
CORRECTIVE ACTION ON DEFIBTECH AEDS
The Defibtech Corporation is notifying customers that version 2.002 and earlier versions of the software in DDU-100 Series AED ("LifeLine" and "ReviverR") may, under certain circumstances, clear a "Low Battery" or "Replace Battery" warning that was previously detected by an automatic self test. If this condition occurs, the operator may be unaware of the low battery, and the device may be unable to deliver a shock.
Defibtech said it will provide a free software upgrade for the recalled units within 10 weeks. The upgrade can be installed by customers without having to return the devices, the company said.
Until the software upgrade is available, Defibtech is mailing customers instructions on how to determine if the AEDs are working properly, the AP reported. The instructions are posted on the company's Web site: http://www.defibtech.com/fa2007.
Customers can also call Defibtech at (877) 453-4507 or (203) 453-4507.
